hi! a couple of years ago, i shared with you some of the pay it forward stories my students wrote! they are actually on the PIF website under "Crossroads Middle School" - i'm hoping that you may enjoy reading some recent stories! i teach middle school "gifted" kids! one of the most popular units has become our "PIF" unit! i begin by showing them the movie trailer....then share with them the middle school excerpt from your novel PAY IT FORWARD; we discuss the likelihood of something like this happening.....we discuss narrative elements of the writing process.....we also talk about how and why the movie is dif't from your writing! THEN....the students must look for 3 people to PIF to! they also must communicate the concept to those people and keep a journal throughout the process! we discuss various academic areas that may help them in their experience......and, invariably, the kids realize that it often truly is better to give than receive....quite an accomplishment for today's middle school students! i'm hoping that you'll enjoy seeing that your Pay It Forward concept is continuing! and still impacting lives! thank you for sharing! thank you for inspiring generosity and an excitement of writing with my students! keep on keepin on! colleen :*) More Stories from Crossroads Middle School: |
